Training Materials for Preventing Exposure to Avian Influenza A Viruses in the Workplace

Interim guidance for employers

What to know

Employers can use these training materials to share information with workers about H5N1 bird flu. Posters on PPE and what to do if you feel sick can be hung up in the workplace. The toolbox talk can be used to lead a discussion about preventing exposure.

PPE posters

Posters on wearing PPE, how to put on PPE, and how to remove PPE are available in five languages. Employers can print these as 11"x17" posters and post them in the workplace. Posters on putting on and removing PPE should be printed and hung in the area designated for that activity, so that instructions do not need to be memorized. You can also print all PPE posters in smaller sizes to hand out to workers.

Toolbox talk

CDC created a toolbox talk (also available in Spanish) to help employers lead focused discussions with their workers about H5N1 bird flu and using personal protective equipment to prevent exposures. The National Center for Farmworker Health has a flip chart H5N1 bird flu training for animal production workers.
